Join the Circular Economy.

I’ll help you find a better way forward.

I am a design strategist helping brands take bold steps into the Circular Economy.

“The goal of the Circular Economy is to keep materials in use as long as possible at their highest value, while reducing toxicity, waste and pollution in the process.”

Projects

These innovations below emerged from the teams and many minds that contributed energy, ideas, and expertise. I have supported and led collaborative processes around creative problem solving for product and business model innovation. I have also done the hard work of implementing them at the start-up level. What’s always mattered most is being inclusive, transparent, and open to new ways of doing things.

From waste to luxury performance

The founder of The Lost Explorer created clear guardrails for apparel development: natural performance with the least negative impact. TLE's Head of Product went to Schoeller Textiles in Switzerland. Together, we created a Bluesign technical material that combined waste cork from the wine industry and premium, ethical merino wool. No plastic was incorporated into the textile.

Circular packaging with a story

There is no off-the-shelf solution for circular packaging in skincare. At The Lost Explorer, we started small with a bottle. We leveraged our relationship with Envision to source local, post-consumer plastic. With the help of a small Los Angeles factory we tested and iterated the material to meet our product formulator’s criteria. In the end, we developed a low-cost 100% PCR bottle that was collected, processed, and remanufactured within California, reducing waste and carbon.

Mezcal that respects livelihoods

In the Oaxacan region of Mexico, a smokey agave spirit is produced called mezcal. After The Lost Explorer's Founder was introduced to an award-winning small-batch Mezcalero in 2014, we saw an opportunity to collaborate on a business. One early marker of success was that we all shared the same values around having an equitable supply chain, community investment, and local habitat stewardship which created an intention that helped guide responsible decision-making.

For-profit model for Nature

The vision was to donate or invest 100% of The Lost Explorer’s net profits to Nature related initiatives. To test the model we developed a product with Circular Design principles and created a campaign to learn about customer preferences and how much of an impact we could make. This included a pre-order platform with user incentives that unlocked different levels of financial contributions based on sales. What emerged was a new corporate model called a Cause Corporation.
